X212 Nje ngebadi libadula,
8.6.8.6

1. Nje ngebadi libadula,
Ukufun' umthombo,
Iya funa njalo, Thixo!
Intliziyo yami.
---
As longs the deer for cooling streams
in parched and barren ways,
so longs my soul, O God, for thee
and thy refreshing grace.

2. Inxaniwe intliziyo,
Inxanel' uThixo,
Ewe lowo, waziwayo
Ungophilileyo.
---
For thee, my God, the living God,
my thirsty soul doth pine:
O when shall I behold thy face,
thou majesty divine?

3. Bandibuza ndasibeka
Isililo mina,
Bakuhlala bendibuza:
"UnoThixo phi na?"
---
Temptations vex my weary soul,
And tears are my repast;
The foe insults without control,
"And where's your God at last?"

4. Zaphalala iinyembezi
Ndakuba ndindedwa;
Ndakucinga ngabaninzi:
Abangasekhoyo.
---
When shall I see thy courts of grace,
And meet my God again?
So long an absence from thy face
My heart endures with pain.

5. Kuba namhla ndinje nje nje,
Ndililolo apha,
Ndandisiya nezihlwele,
Kuyo indlu yaKho.
---
'Tis with a mournful pleasure now
I think on ancient days;
Then to thy house did numbers go,
And all our work was praise.

6. Ndotsho ndithi: "Thixo wami!
Undilahlele ni?
'De ndihlekwe luth' utshaba,
UnoThixo phi na?"
---
Have you my God forsaken me?
My enemies cry out:
Where is your God are you alone?
Is all your faith in vain?

7. Kungani na, muphefumlo!
Udakumbileyo,
Waxhalaba ngaphakathi,
Ungenakuzola?
---
Why restless, why cast down, my soul?
Hope still, and thou shalt sing
the praise of him who is thy God,
thy health's eternal spring.

8. Lo ubizwa naziinzulu,
Ngeengxangxasi zazo,
Bek' ithemba lakho kuYe,
Uthuthuzeleke. Amen
---
Hope in the Lord whose mighty hand
Can all thy woes remove;
For I shall yet before him stand,
And sing restoring love. Amen.
